ART 4 Concentration WORK
My Artist Statement:
Originally, my concentration subject was focused on the idea of “cities.” An example of my first work was my piece, Towers. I initially chose cities because of the immense love I have for cities and traveling. Going new places is my absolute favorite thing in the world. Because I could not execute this theme professionally, I chose a new idea. This new concentration revolves around the idea of words. I recently borrowed a classroom dictionary, and began tearing out pages to doodle on top of. Later, I was inspired to watercolor on top of the fine-printed pages. This way, I can cut them up and carefully arrange them in an intriguing way. Just like my piece, Under the Sea.
When people look at my work, I want them to lean in closer. I want them to take a second- glance and realize there are little words and definitions beneath the colorful streaks. I can go in many directions with this idea. I can make large collages, or little intricate ones. I can paint with bright, eye-catching colors, or dull tones. The color palette I select is based on the featured word at the top of the page I am painting on.
Art has mostly held a pretty large role in my life. I never have been incredible at anything that cannot be made up. Although I’d try my best, if I am assigned a still-life painting, it generally won’t look realistic. However, when given a brand new Sharpie and some blank paper, I could doodle for hours! Some of my “best work” is on scrap pieces of paper, math homework, or in my journal. I have absolutely no idea how art is going to play a role in my future, but I am very excited for the opportunities I have! I cannot wait to see what lies ahead in my art future.
